Can you believe that the girls surf day as already come and gone!
August Bank Holiday dawned with a typically windy and wet summer day but it still did not dampen the spirits of the 34 girls who attended the Christian Surfers Jersey Girls Surf Day 2008. God blessed us with 2-3ft waves, which although a bit blown out, were perfect for learning (or improving) our surfing skills!
Jack, Carmen and Jo were our fantastic instructors from the Jersey Surf School who begun the day by a basic beach safety lesson on the beach followed by a warm up. Some girls were heard questioning why they had ever signed up to running up and down a beach at 9am on a cold bank holiday morning but soon got into the spirit once they had learnt the basics on the beach and were let loose in the water!
The girls really showed a natural aptitude for surfing once in the water and by the end of the morning session, many of the girls were standing on their boards.
By 11am we were all ready for a good warm up and hot chocolate! A game of rounders on the beach was suggested but in true girlie style we all rather opted for the warmth of the splash and a cuppa! After a short talk by Cirsty on God our heavenly father and creator, we were soon ready for our fatkins friendly burger and chips! (hey a girls got to eat when she's been ripping in the water!)
The afternoon surf session gave the girls a great opportunity to improve on their new learnt surfing skills and by the end of the afternoon most girls were consistantly catching waves and standing on their boards!
A lot of run was had by all a a HUGE thanks must go to all the instructors from the Jersey Surf School, Dan McDowell (our photographer) and The Body Shop for providing AWESOME goody bags!
See you next year for more fun with the girls!

After a rather windy and dull few days, this saturday dawned with sunshine for our first Guys Surf Day.
We had a rather blustery start in the morning but the weather soon warmed up in the afternoon and a number of the guys went home with a wetsuit tan!
The day started with a quick talk from Tim Bond about the freedom we can find in Christ followed by a short prayer and then 13 Guys took to the water for the rest of the day with Rebecca and Connor from Atlantic Waves Surf School. The waves were quite messy from the onshore wind but the afternoon session saw some nice 2 ft sets roll through and most guys were able to get to their feet by the end of the day!
The guys also benefitted from a lunchtime BBQ cooked by the very talented Chefs Cirsty, Claire and Anita! We thought we were doing very well until Justin pointed out it helps if the vents are open!!!! Funnily enough the BBQ's started firing up after this!
The day was a great success and all the guys seemed to enjoy themselves with talks of further lessons!
Thanks to AVEDA, ORCA publishings and friends of Christian Surfers, each guy was provided with a goody bag.
Thanks to AVEDA and ORCA for sponsoring the goody bags, Rebecca and Connor from Atlantic Waves Surf School and Claire, Heidi and Anita for helping out on the day.
